Not night, not evening, not afternoon, morning. Always morning. He was always wide awake at this hour of 3 am. It was not because he was an insomniac, or creature of the night... wait... maybe he was a creature of the night, being the sandman's son and all. What I'm trying to get at is this: he was awake.
The sky was just turning lighter, and here he was standing there with his blond hair moving with the wind. His blue eyes reflecting the now purple horizon, watching and waiting for the sun to come up to greet him so he could to go sleep. He never slept at night, just during the day. He wore dark green and blue jeans and a bright orange t-shirt. Over that he had a long dark blue cape like thing. He stood there, like a statue, growing tired with every passing minute.

The light tap of footsteps echoed on the roof top, though there seemed no one there to make the sound. The noise was barley there, at that. Just a gentle, soft sound of tap, tap, tap which was accomponied every few taps by a light jingle.
Just as the footsteps drew near the boy, they suddenly no longer existed. With a final, close jingle, they were gone. Soon to be replaced by something flashing into existance and pouncing on him from behind while screaming out "Boo!", which was accompnied by laughter.

The boy blinked, a moment of fear passed at the speed of sound. Growling, he felt the being pounce on him, and let out a small 'oof'. Grabbing whatever it was that had snuck up on him, he threw it over his shoulder as an instictive reaction. He pushed back his hair to get a good look at it and for it to get a good look at his glare.

With a low groan, Nora glanced up at him. She blinked a few times, obviously winded from havving been slammed down against the roof. "Did I scare ya?" She asked, sitting up and grinning at him.

Brendan glared at her. He stood back up, facing the east, refusing to talk to her. He had the urge to ask her why she was there, but would not speak at all. He gently bit the inside of his bottom lip, impatiently waiting for the sun to come up so he could go to sleep. But his mind wasn't only on that. He was in his taller version of himself, about 5'8" tall, and older. He had shorter hair in this age, and bluer eyes.

Nora tipped her head to the side, a sad look on her face. She stood up, walking around to stand infront of him. "I did scare you, didn't I?" She asked brightly, smiling up at him as she was at the very least a foot shorter than him.

Brendan was forced to look down at her, still glaring. "No. You didn't. If I did get scared, you would be in a deep sleep right now." Brendan said, thinking of how when he was scared, his scent changed to that of a sleeping gas and surrounded him within a 20 foot radius. She pictured her scaring him, and couldn't help but chuckle to himself about the idea of her stupidity.

Nora sighed, looking up at him sadly. "You don't have to be so mean about it...and why are you laughing?"

"Why are you trying to make friends with me?" Brendan snapped back. He glared at her, and turned around sharply so that his cape flew out behind him, over her head, as he walked away.

Nora shrunk back, her eyes widening slightly. She opened her mouth, as if about to say something as her eyes began to show signs of tears. "I just....I...don't have any friends. Other than Misery...I just..I only wanted..."

Brendan stopped, and turned his head to the side, his back still to her. "You only thought what? That our elders would forget everything and relieve the bann between us?" He asked, looking to her.

"I...guess..." She said, casting her gaze downward. "I just...don't see why they care so much." Looking back up, Nora tilted her head as if confused. "It's not as if we'd ever be anything more than friends. What do they have to worry about?"

"That exact thing. They think that we're unpredictable, and we are," Brendan said, more calmly now but still having that perminent glare. IT would never go away. Looking down at her, he continued as he turned to her fully. "I need to sleep when the sun comes up... and that's going to take another hour... I'm sorry if I was mean."

"It's okay," She replied, turning her gaze down once again. "I guess I get annoying sometimes, huh?"

"You have no idea," Brendan said, shaking his head, looking at the floor. He couldn't help it but be so bitchy. It was his father's influence on him, and the only one. Brendan was glad that he wasn't like his father as much as some of his half brothers were. Unlike Des' kids, who're mostly half siblings, Brendan's father purposefully did this to annoy Brendan. Thankfully, the women always took the kids away, never letting the kids stay with the sandman. Brendan's mother had a good reason for leaving him there. A good reason.

"Actually, I do. It's why I have trouble making friends. Like you said, I'm unpredictable," Nora said with a deep sigh. "And frankly, I hate it. I can't help that I act so nasty towards people most of the time. I try to behave, and be nice. But whenever I TRY to be good, I end up acting like a horrid beast."

Brendan looked at her, staring for a moment. "That's... like how I feel about myself..." He muttered, but loudly so that she could hear. "Everytime I try to act nice.. I have some sarcastic remarkt o why I did it..."

"Well, I guess we're more alike than I thought," Nora replied with a tiny smile, then sighed. "But...there's something I just don't understand. What has gotten your dad so mad at my grandpa? Because, whatever it is, either granpa's forgot about it, or doesn't care so much. He hasn't yelled at me about being near you once! And it's all because of this...this...fight, we can't be friends." Nora looked down, biting her lip. "That is...if you...wanted to be my friend..."

Brendan, for once, smiled. "Of course I want to be your friend. You're a charming girl," he said, for once, complimenting her. The smile faded of course, back into that frown he always had. "Hyde's probably forgotten about it now.. just needs reminding, I guess..." Brendan looked down, thinking. "I woulcn't be surprised if all this was just a misunderstanding."

Nora smiled, nodding her head. "Probably. Just some stupid little misunderstanding that got escalated." After a pause, Nora hugged Brendan. "My goodness, why do you frown so much?"
