The dictionary simply describes a selkie as "A creature or spirit in Scottish and Irish folklore that has the form of a seal but can also assume human form." And of course, this is true. Selkies all originate from the Celtic Isles, all shed their seal skins to walk among humans. But what's more, is that they can sing. And so it was that winter day, with it's bitter yet oddly bright winter silence that was pierce by a melody.
A melody sung by the only Selkie within miles of the two great Manors of the Maelstrom and Rennelds families. Now, selkie songs are always magical, deep meanings and desires hidden within their words. And deep magic aswell. For a selkie they may sing any song out of the blue, and if their intent upon the time was to draw in a mate, that the song would. Charm the one best suited to fufill the need of love for the singer.
By Dylindra sought no mate, nor any intentinal love with her song. It was simply means to make her feel more at home as she sat on the bank of the partially frozen water. She was half concealed beneath the bridge itself, trying to keep the bright sun from her eyes. But her song was loud and clear, easily giving away her position on the quiet border between the two forests.
"Don't lose your way, with each passing day..." A classic song, perhaps from a mere child's movie but still marvelous when sung from the lips of a selkie. "You've come so far, don't throw it away. Live believing, dreams are for weaving, wonders are waiting to start..." Her body swayed gently back and forth, and though she sat she still managed to dance; her hands doing most of the speaking for her as they wove in and out, animating lyrics from the song.
And so she continued to sing, nearly forgetting the fact that her singing was bound to attract someone. Afterall, few people could resist to listen to a selkie song.
