The ground was barren all around her as she stood on the bridge. The only sign of life being the trickle of river below her feet, and still yet no greenery was growing. The green eyes scanned the water, then the furtile soil. Nothing was wrong, there should be plants and trees growing here... but they all seemed to stay at least 20 feet away from the water when they should be right up against the banks. The elf sat on the side of the bridge, swinging her feet while looking at herself in the clear healthy water below her. It didn't make sense to her why this area was not growing, no matter how hard she tried her spells and asked the trees to move closer.
Nantosuelta, or Tosu as she was called by her close friends - if she had any, gazed over to her left, at the willow trees, then to her right, to the pine trees. Something had happened here long ago, which caused the plants to back away, out of respect or fear. Little did she know about the water's secrets. How it drained life from lonely beings. By one sip, one could fall into a deep sleep and never wake up but still be alive. That if she were to touch the water, she'd be asking for a life full of pain and sadness.
Not knowing this, Nantosuelta turned around and leaned back, so that her knees held her up on the bridge, but she was able to reach down towards the water. To the eyes of someone who did not hear the stories, the water was clear and clean, and inviting. Many a body wound up in the river, just sitting there, eyes blank but still alive. Or they'd wind up in the rehabs nearby in the human side of the world.
Curiously, Nantosuelta reached her hands down towards the water, suddenly feeling thirsty...

"Hey hey hey, back away from there!" Came a sudden call from the bushes, as a creature bounded forward, waving small arms around almost foolishly to try and grab Tosu's attention away from the water below her. Stumbling over the rocks near the bank the small person toppled over, having their face meet unpleasantly with the small pebbles by the water's edge while their body remained stiff as a board - a cartoony display at the least but attention grabbing none-the-less.
The little selkie boy picked his face up, putting his finger in his mouth a moment to play with one of his front teeth - feeling it wobble but not come loose. "Oh darnit," Baeu muttered, before turning his attention back to Tosu. "Yeah, yeah! Don't go in that water! It's bad for yooouuuu!!" He waved his small hands back and forth, shaking his head.

Nantosuelta turned to the boy, her neck cracking in the process, and stared. Nantosuelta giggled slightly, seeing the boy fall so comically. She slowly climbed her way back up her own body, sitting upright on the wall of the bridge. She tossed her red hair back, fixing it as it had been messed up from hanging upside down. She looked at the boy curiously. "Aren't you a little young to be running around on your own?" Nantosuelta asked, hopping off the bridge wall and walking calmly towards the boy. "How old are you?"

The selkie boy rubbed at his face, the first irking stings coming to him now. "Ooohhhh," looking to Tosu he frowned, pressing his hands to his hips as he balled them into tiny fists. "I'm old enough, I'm sure. I'm six-years-old." He stated, blowing away a strand of light blue hair that almost glew against his skin. Stepping lightly over the stones Baeu walked over to Tosu, looking up at her and pouting. "What are you doing running around on your own? Obviously you aren't capable of such if you don't even know about this river."

Nantosuelta stood still, looking down at the boy curiously. "Six years old? Dear, where are your parents?" She asked him, and looked around as if someone just might pop out of the bushes, calling out this boy's name. When she heard his warning about the river, she looked back at him with a confused look. "The river?" She asked, as if she hadn't heard him the first time, and looked towards the river, still confused but now contemplating. "Is that why the trees are all afraid?" She asked, turning back to the boy and crouching down so that she was face to face with him.

"No here. Down by the bay, I think," he replied, pressing a finger to his lips as he tried to recall. He seemed to care very little for the fact of where they were - he knew his way around and could very well protect himself if he got into trouble. Baeu shot her back a confused look at her look, the confusion coming from the odd question she had asked. Frightened trees? Well, it wasn't that farfetched and so the boy shrugged it off casually. "I 'unno. I guess so."

"The trees, they're quaking." Tosu explained to him, and put her hand on the closest tree. "Hard to feel, but it's there... the little tremors of fear..." Tosu looked down towards the roots, and knelt down, dragging her hand down the bark and over the soil. "The roots aren't even growing towards the water..." She muttered, and looked to the river. "Little boy," Tosu stood up and looked at Baeu curiously again. "Tell me - what's wrong with this water?"

Baeu watched her odd display with his head tilted to one side, curious of every movement she made and wondering just what on earth this weird girl was doing. Tremors in the trees? Now how could that be? Hearing her words being direscted towards him, Baeu perked up. "The water is cursed. It's bad for you - people drown in it all the time and wash up river. There's something wrong with it - that all I really know. And I can tell without even touching it that it's sour; diluted, I think is the word. Or maybe it's some other one I dunno."
