It had all started with a cough. Jill's cough. IT echoed throughout Des' quiet house, and gave her the chills - she didn't know why. Not until suddenly Kale's children were falling sick left and right with only... well, no one knew what! Des couldn't examine one long enough before some other kid was complaining about the same symptoms. Coughing up blood, high fever, sweat running in rivers, and some were cold while others were hot. Some had drastic seissures while others couldn't even move. If you think Des, one of the only good nurses around, had it bad, think of the mother! Poor Kale, Des wished she could comfort her, but she had children to treat, including her own. She was at a loss, beacuse her trainees had caught it too, but had mild cases. Soon, Josie caught it. It wasn't highly contageous. You had to be part of the same gene pool to get really effected by it. That and you have to have come in diret contact.
Des somehow wasn't effected at all.
Josie was lying in her room in her own home, her face flushed, her eyes red and she coughed up blood. She complained lightly of coldness, and hugged mountains of covers to her body, tyring to get warm. "Willow?" She lifted her head, awaking from a sleep. "I need some soup..." She muttered, not even taking time to see if he was there or not before her head thumped against the pillow and she was off in her dream world again.

Willow had just been peeking into the room to usher out Alice's children once more - damn those little trouble makers getting into places they shouldn't have been - when Josie had asked for soup. Sighing softly he grabbed the shirt collars of the two little boys and tugged them out; their sister following after obidiently. "Now," Willow muttered, sounding a little annoyed as he thrust the three of them into chairs lined up outside the door,"sit and stay. You're not going to be having fun once you're sick as well!" With that said, Willow turned to walk down towards the kitchen to get some soup - unaware that the three little beasties were up and about again the moment he was out of sight.
Though most of Kale's children had been affected, there were some that weren't. Namely Vega, Jamie, Warren and the majority of the kids who no longer lived in her house. Although Warren was too small to help out - and missing somewhere with his mother, who'd locked herself...somewhere when the epidemic began - Vega and Jamie made and attempt. Though, at the moment, Vega was lying on one of the beds herself; not because she was sick but rather because she had a concussion due to Jamie spilling soup all over the floor, and Vega slipping in it. Overly fun, for sure.
And yet, meanwhile, Kale was still missing.

Des sat beside Vega, a wet cloth to her forehead. "There, Vega. You get better soon, it'll be over soon." Des told her, and stood. She left the room and went to the next one, continuing to care for the children in any way she could. She made a large room, the ballroom, into a replica of the hospitals you see in old army movies where everyone had their own bed and everyone only had a curtain to seperate themselves from the others. Des looked around for Jamie. "Jamie?! Where are you?" She called out.
Josie moaned, and coughed. Her pillow was spotted with blood from her mouth. "Iron... I hate iron..." She muttered in her semi-sleep. "Hun... Remind me to never eat with iron spoons again..." She muttered to, well, no one. Just muttered like she was perfectly fine - delirium. She held the blankets tighter. "And turn the heat up..." was what she said as she rolled over and coughed, making a new spot of blood.

Jamie scuttled up to Des, holding a tray above her head with several bowls of splashing soup sloshing around atop it. "Y-yes Auntie?" She questioned, tipping from side to side and stepping one way and then the other to try and steady herself. "I brought more soup." Vega groaned gently, but seemed a little more at ease when Des placed the cloth on her head.
Something plopped down on Josie's bed - something warm and soft and having some mass to it. One of Alice and Gush's little boys blinked as his aunt, kicking his legs back and forth and staring.

Josie opened her eyes. They were bloodshot and she looked drunk - but she still had some sense in her. "Kid... go away..." She sighed, then coughed. "It's not safe here - go now."
Des looked at Jamie. "I need you to work extra hard for a few minutes. I need to find your mother," Des told her, nodding. "Use magic if you ahve to, Jamie. You'll spill sopu all over yourself otherwise." Des gaveJamie a reassuring smile and turned, heading towards Kale's room.

"B-but I don't have any magic that could help with that!" Jamie replied, whining softly as her tail and ears drooped. Regardless she turned around, continuing to balance the numerous bowls of soup as they sloshed all over the place - and all over her - as she made an attempt to give it to any of the kids that were complaining and wanting it.
The door to Josie's room opened again and Willow walked in, carrying a large bowl of and scowling. "WOULD YOU GO AWAY AND STAY WHERE I TELL YOU TO?!" Though his words were harsh, they more no more than a hiss of a whisper rather than a yell.

"Do as he says..." Josie coughed and turned away, closing her eyes. She was very sweaty, although she was freezing. "Willow?" She called weakly. "Willow... Do you love me?" She asked. She had been asking the same thing every time she saw him and would smileas best as she could every time he answered.
Des took off her mask and the yellow gown she wore around the kids - even though she was immune to this in particular disease because of the purity in her blood wasn't as low as these... inbreds. She hated to admit it, but a lot of them were inbreds. Sighing, Des made her way to Kale's room, saundering up the stairs and down the hallways. As soon as she saw the door, her clip slowed down and quieted. She called from ten feet away as a warning, "Kale, I'm comming to check up on you... So stop whatever you're doing and let me iiiinnnnn...." As soon as she said stop, she was at the door and knocking gently. "Kale? You in there?"

From behind the door there was a partially muffled shuffle, followed by the sound of something bumping against the door. A small shadow appear by the door in time with the bump, apparently Warren putting his hands against the door and either trying to get out or trying to figure out where the voice had come from so suddenly. After a moment of silence he began to whimper and cry, apparently recognizing the voice as Des's and wanting her attention now.

Des tried the doorknob, and just in case tried to melt it to unlock any locks. "It's alright, Warren. I'm right here. Is your mommy awake or is she sleeping?" Des asked as she opened the door and skooped up the baby boy. She hugged him and closed the door behind her, looking about. "Kale? Where'd ya go?"

Warren, now satisfied with the fact he had some attention, calmed down instantly and began to amuse him with tugging on Des' ears, oblivious to any questions he was asked by his aunt. A shuffling sound came from the closet, the sound of moving fabric - obviously Kale moving around onto of her piles of discarded and hidden clothing; a mishmash of dirty and clean clothes indistiguishable from each other.
Warren cooed gently, looking over at the sliding closet door then back to Des.

Des shifted Warren's weight and moved towards the closet. "Kale, come on out. I'm not carying any diseases if you're afraid of that." Des told her as she opened the door. "Why are you in the closet?" She asked as she yet again shifted Warren's weight.

"I'm not afraid of you," Kale replied, having her chin currently resting on her arm, which was laying across her curled up knees. She sighed looking up at Des and Warren, holding her arms out for her baby boy. "I'm not afraid of getting sick, though I probably will eventually. I'm just... worried."

"Oh hun..." Des let out a relieved sigh. "About the kids? I'm trying my hardest, and they seem to be turning around, the most of them." Des said and tried her motherly smile on Kale. Always comforting, gentle. She sat down in front of Kale and patted her head, sitting Warren into her now cross legged lap. "So don't go over the edge with this. I would worry more about yourself since I'm busy with the kids."

"I can't help but worry about them. I care more about them than anything else." Kale stated, sighing, and looking to Warren; still overly content with playing with the skin on Des' arm and the sleeves of her shirt. She smiled at her baby boy, reaching out and stroking his mass of dark hair before turning back to Des. "I know you're doing your best, but I still have to worry. That's why I've been staying away from Robin, ya know? I don't want him to see me so upset, I'm afraid that if he gets a grip on the fact I care more about my kids than him, it may make him feel belittled and.... eeh. Yeah. I don't know, I guess it's just my paranoia."

Des smirked. "Robin knows how much these kids mean to you. He's no dumb." Des told Kale as she too stroked Warren's hair. "He knows that you love him, and that's all that matters to him right now. That and taking care of your children." Des looked up for a moment, just above Kale's head as if reading something, though nothing was there. "And maybe it'll do some good if the kids know that you're here for them - though you don't have to if you really don't wanto."

Kale glanced towards the door that lead out into the hallway, her eyes narrowing a little bit - more a look of untrust than a look of aggrivation - before she sighed. "I can't go out there. I can't go out there and see them suffering. It's too much on me." With another sigh she looked to Warren, blinking a few times, a slow blink that was more or less something that gave her time to think. "Uhm... hmm. I think Warren's hungry. I should probably go feed him now...neither of us has eaten for a while."

"Well," Des cheered up more. "That's an idea. Get out of the room for a breather, it's a good start. Feed the child you've locked up in here." Des smiled and put her hands on Kale's shoulders. "We'll work through this, Kale. I promise you that much." Des smiled at her, standing up. She left Warren on the floor, but held out a hand to either of them,. "C'mon then, mates. Let's go get some food into ya."

"Yeah yeah, I'm coming," Kale muttered, taking Des's hand and hauling herself up, her joints creaking and cracking a bit, as if she'd been sitting in that same position so long that they'd chosen to stick that way. Not all of a surprise, Kale had a tendency to shut down for a while in a state of shell shock such as this, but, well, at least she was walking and talking and able to express any sort of concern, right?
Warren was at her leg instantly, clinging to it and wrapping himself around it - apparently not wanting to walk on his own. Kale sighed, shaking her head and walking towards the door; if not a bit drearily. "So, who's kicked the bucket so far," she questioned, voice barren in the emotional field, flat and almost chillingly uncaring.

"I couldn't really say, but a lot of the ones I never really kknew are gone" Des said, sighing. "I really don't think it's a good idea for you to be talkinga bout it like this, Kale. It's unhealthy." Des looked at her sideways, opening the door for her and leading her out, still holding her hand. "Really, when you're ready, it'd be easier on me and yourself to go and see who's still here, and not think of the ones you lost athough it may be hard, y'know?"
Josie opened her eyes slightly, wondering how long she'd passed out and tried siting up. "Willow? Are you still there?" She called, not being able to see correctly now. She squinted around the dark room, seeing nothing. "I can't see you.. or anything..." At this she began to cry.

The door on the other side of the room opened and Willow peeked his head in, smiling upon entering, though it faded fast. The door clicked closed, and a weight was applied to the blankets right next to Josie, a soft hand resting against her cheek. "Sshhh, it's alright. I'm here." His thumb rubbed away at her tears softly, hugging her close. Willow smiled softly, hushing Josie.
Kale sighed softly, shaking her head as she walked down the hallway - picking Warren up in her arms. "Yeah...I guess."
